Iran calls on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency session

Iran calls on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency session to condemn Israel.
Israel carried out airstrikes on Iran yesterday in response to Iranian attacks earlier this month.

Iran’s special envoy to the United Nations, Amir Said Iravani, stated in a letter to the Security Council that Israel’s “illegal and aggressive actions” are a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and “a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.”

4 Iranian officers were killed as a result of the attack.

Israel has said it only struck military targets, not nuclear or oil-producing areas.

The Security Council consists of five permanent members: the United States, Russia, China, Great Britain and France.
