The Tour de France 2025 in the footsteps of James Bond

At the 112th Tour de France by July 26 to August 3, 2025 The professionals can expect a classic France cycling tour with a mountain time trial and a demanding third week. 36 years after the last climb to Luchon-Superbagnères, the Pyrenees ski area returns, also the legendary one Mont Ventoux is in the program. The ASO tour organizers announced this at the route presentation on Tuesday in Paris.

For the first time in five years the “Big Loop” takes place 3.320 Kilometer takes place in 21 stages without a trip abroad. Defending champion Tadej Pogacar and his fellow competitors have to complete, among other things, six mountain stages and two time trials. 51,550 meters altitude are imminent and therefore almost 700 meters less than this year. The mountain time trial on the 13th stage between Loudenville and the Peyragudes airfield in the Pyrenees, known from the James Bond film series, is awaited with particular excitement. The favorites to win are likely to have a bitter duel there.

The 14th stage is also tough. After the start, we head from Pau to Superbagnères – a highly demanding 4,950 meters in altitude ahead. For logistical reasons, the destination was not included for a long time. The third week in particular is likely to suit the three-time Tour winner Pogacar and represents a big challenge for many sprinters to even arrive before the time limit has expired. The 18th section to the Col de la Loze alone, the queen stage, contains a tough 5,500 meters of altitude. The following two stages each have more than 4,500 meters of altitude.

After three external starts in the last three years in Copenhagen, Bilbao and Florence, the Grand Départ will take place on July 5th in the northern French metropolis of Lille and again in France. Traditionally, the spectacle ends in Paris on the Champs-Élysées, after this year the tour was postponed to the finale in Nice due to the Olympic Games.

Die Women’s Tour 2025 includes nine stages, one more than this year. After the Grand Départ in Vannes in Brittany on July 26th, the tour ends on August 3rd after tackling the famous Col de Joux-Plane pass in the Châtel ski area.
