Georgia announces partial recount of ballots for parliamentary elections

Georgia’s Central Election Commission announced a partial recount of ballots after pro-Western parties alleged fraud in the October 26 parliamentary elections.

“District election commissions will conduct a recount of ballots at five polling stations, which will be randomly selected in each electoral district,” the CEC said in a statement. We are talking about about 14% of all votes cast.

According to previously announced results, the pro-Russian ruling Georgian Dream party won more than 54% of the votes. Opposition parties (overcoming the 5 percent electoral threshold): “Coalition for Change” – about 11%, “Unity-National Movement” (Mikheil Saakashvili’s party) – 10%, “Strong Georgia” – 9%, “For Georgia” – 8 %.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili stated that she refuses to recognize the election results, since their results are “totally falsified.” According to her, Russia has tested “new forms of hybrid warfare” in Georgia.

“This was total falsification and confiscation of your votes. All the methods that we saw in different countries were used. In addition, today’s technologies were used to whitewash falsification. This has never happened. We became witnesses and victims of a Russian special operation, a hybrid war that was waged against our people, against our country,” she said.
