Nothing launches the fluorescent smartphone designed by fans, in just a thousand pieces

Nothing, the young British technology company, has announced a new version of its Phone 2A Plus, characterized by a unique glow-in-the-dark design and innovative packaging, created in part thanks to the participation of its most creative followers. The new device, called Phone 2A Plus Community Edition, is the result of a contest organized by the company which invited members of its community to design a smartphone that reflected their imagination. The project represents Nothing’s first “major pilot” to co-create a hardware product, and received over 900 submissions from the community. Enthusiasts have tried their hand at customizing the phone’s aesthetics and marketing ideas, helping to define the uniqueness of this limited model. The device will be on sale from November 12th directly on the Nothing website, at the price of 399 euros, but will only be available in 1,000 copies.

The new edition of the Phone 2A Plus features an elegant phosphorescent green finish on the back, designed by Astrid Vanhuyse and Kenta Akasaki and created in collaboration with Nothing’s Adam Bates and Lucy Birley. This special material emits a soft light in dark environments without the need for energy, simply “charging” itself with daylight. The packaging of the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition has also been reinterpreted in a bright way. Ian Henry Simmonds designed packaging with reflective elements and macro details of the phone itself, which reinforces the “glow-in-the-dark” theme. To accompany the design, the Nothing software team, together with designer Andrés Mateos, developed a collection of six new wallpapers, called the “Connected Collection”. These matching wallpapers will complement the device’s bright aesthetic, amplifying the visual experience for users.
