CIA chief arrives in Egypt to discuss truce in Gaza and Lebanon

CIA Director William Burns held talks in Cairo with Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi. According to the office of the Egyptian leader, the subject of discussion was the situation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

According to the statement, al-Sisi stated the urgent need for a ceasefire in Lebanon. Discussing the issue of a truce in Gaza, the Egyptian President emphasized the importance of delivering humanitarian aid to the enclave.

US Special Representative Amos Hochstein and Senior Adviser to the President for the Middle East Brett McGurk will arrive in Israel on Thursday, October 31, to discuss the process of resolving the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as “other regional issues.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said after speaking with Hochstein that he was optimistic that a ceasefire agreement could be reached between Hezbollah and Israel.

In an interview with Lebanese TV channel Al Jadeed, Mikati said: “We are doing everything in our power and hope that within the next hours or days we will agree on a ceasefire.”
