The billionaire Elon Musk is expected in court in Philadelphia to defend himself from a lawsuit that seeks to curb his million-dollar donations to ‘lucky’ pro-Trump voters registered in swing states. Philadelphia’s top prosecutor, Larry Krasner, filed the lawsuit last Monday, calling Musk’s scheme “an illegal lottery scheme,” and the judge in the case, Anne Marie Coyle, specified that the billionaire is required to appear in court : “All parties are ordered to be present at the hearing,” his words.
Musk’s announcement that he would give away a million dollars every day to a registered voter who indirectly signs a petition in favor of the tycoon had caused quite a bit of controversy, so much so that the Department of Justice had already warned of the possible violation of the federal law that prohibits paying people to register to vote.
Since last July, the 53-year-old owner of SpaceX and to his personal political action committee, which raises money for elections.
Musk also appeared on stage with Trump during an election rally in Pennsylvania, one of the ‘swing states’ that was decisive for the final victory.
