A novel in Stasi files: Clemens Böckmann’s debut “What you can get”

A novel in Stasi files, and what a novel it is: Clemens Böckmann tells of the sex worker Uta Krahl, who spied on West German businessmen for decades.

“I love… I love everyone, all people… I love, I’m committed to it…”. These are the recorded words of Stasi boss Erich Mielke in his first and only speech to the GDR People’s Chamber, given on November 13, 1989. When everything was over, one might say. But it took another year for it all to be over. And then it took another thirty-four years. And it still takes time.
