"Yes to dialogue but we remain autonomous". The M5s sticks to alliances

No organic alliance. The line of the 5 Star Movement does not change in the aftermath of the abrupt halt suffered in Liguria. The Movement remains firmly within a progressive perimeter alternative to the right that currently governs the country and is ready to collaborate on the basis of themes shared with the rest of the opposition. Themes that are the same on which the oppositions have met in recent months: healthcare, minimum wage, ecological transition. Before the Ligurian vote, then, the opposition were united on the Stellantis dispute which saw them together with the workers in the square in Rome. The next appointments will concern the maneuver and contacts between the opposition parties are already underway regarding the defense of public health.

It is not lost on the M5s leaders that the defeat in Liguria requires a change of pace and, perhaps, also a different organization of the Movement. But for this, it is underlined, there is already the Constituent Assembly with the national assembly which will meet at the end of November. The condition required by the Five Star Movement to sit at any table is, even more than before, the equal dignity of all the political forces with which it dialogues and respect for the founding principles of the Movement. A concept reiterated in the hours in which the Democratic Party and its secretary, Elly Schlein return to claim the role of ‘deus ex machina’ of the coalition. Having made this clear, head and heart to the parliamentary dossiers, starting with the maneuver to get to the Anti-Mafia match.

Yesterday Giuseppe Conte attended the “Quale Antimafia” press conference together with the two M5s group leaders, Stefano Patuanelli and Francesco Silvestri. The M5s president and the group leaders have renewed, if ever there was a need, their support for those they consider “two champions of the Anti-Mafia”, namely Roberto Scarpinato and Federico Cafiero De Raho. The two former magistrates engaged in a tug of war with the majority in the Anti-Mafia Commission which accuses them of conflict of interest on the dossier of mafia massacres. For Conte, the real conflict of interest is that which concerns the president of the Commission Chiara Colosimo, by virtue of her friendship with “Ciavardini, convicted of killing the prosecutor Mario Amato. He was sentenced to 13 years for the murder of the officer Francesco Evangelista. And Colosimo prevents Roberto Scarpinato, who has nothing to hide, from accessing the conversations pertaining to him, President Colosimo has engaged in this abusive behavior without any law”, adds Conte.

And, to return to the topic of alliances, it is no coincidence that a representative of the Democratic Party like Walter Verini was at the press conference. “It is an honor to be on the Antomafia commission with De Raho and Scarpinato”, underlined the Dem representative. A presence, that of Verini, which is underlined by an M5s exponent when asked if he will continue the dialogue with the Democratic Party or if, as feared in some reconstructions, the M5s intends to oppose alone: ”Whoever was here will not escape with us tonight.”
