The elephant herd tries to save the rhinoceros from the lions

The elephants repeatedly chased the lions and even tried to pull the stuck black rhino out of the mud but failed.

Tourist Kim Hathway recorded a clash between large animals in the heart of Etosha National Park. A black rhinoceros is trapped in an Aus lake, surrounded by a group of hungry lions. The situation became even more dramatic when a herd of buffalo appeared in time to give the rhino a chance to turn the situation around. This is one of the most impressive animal interactions ever recorded by visitors, Latest Sightings reported on October 31.

At first, Kim saw the lioness lying on the hill jump up. Not long after, the whole herd followed her, quietly moving towards the lake in a rhythmic manner. The hot sun urged the huge black rhino to go over the same hill, looking for a place to rest in the muddy lake. The rhinoceros did not seem to pay attention to the lions, only focusing on cooling off under the hot sun in Namibia. But while it was immersed in the muddy water, Kim and the tourists discovered that the animal seemed stuck, its legs and body submerged under a thick layer of mud at the bottom of the lake.

The lions quickly discovered the rhino’s struggling condition and carefully approached. They are wary of the dangers associated with large prey but are willing to take advantage of its inability to move. The lions came closer and closer, but the rhinos could barely defend themselves. Just as the lion was about to attack, a herd of elephants appeared in the distance. Discovering that the rhino was tense and the lions were threatening it, the elephants immediately took action. They chased away the lions, forcing the herd to retreat, giving the trapped rhinos a short time to recuperate.

While most of the herd moved on, one elephant refused to leave the rhino alone. It tries to free the rhino by using its tusks and feet to pull and push. Although the elephant persevered for hours to pull the rhino out of the mud, the thick layer of mud and the rhino’s own weight made it tired and forced to leave. After several times chasing away the lions, the elephants finally had to move on. When the lions returned, they joined forces to wrestle the rhinoceros, causing the prey to drown. After many hours of struggling, the lions won and enjoyed a hearty meal. The encounter reveals the unpredictable relationships in the animal kingdom between elephants, rhinos and lions.

Elephants are in the group of 5 large animals of Africa. African elephants are large herbivores with thick, almost hairless skin, long, flexible, prehensile trunks, sharp, curved tusks, and large fan-like ears. African elephants include two subspecies, the African bush elephant and the African bush elephant. They are very difficult to hunt due to their large size and are easier to attack than other species.

African lion (Panthera leo) lives mainly in the sub-Saharan region. They are the only cat species in the world that lives in groups and are the second largest in size in the Cat family, only surpassed by tigers. Adult African lions weigh about 120 – 190 kg, with a body length of 1.4 – 2 m excluding the tail. Male lions protect the territory of the pride, while females are the main hunters. Their prey includes antelopes, zebras and some other mammals.
