Ex-Grêmio stars in unusual move in Europe and is applauded

The Paraná native Pepe played an unusual role last Sunday, in Porto’s 4-0 victory over Estoril in the Portuguese Championship. Ex-GrêmioPepê was marked for having fair play in a dispute with defender Pedro Amaral.

During the play, the defender felt an injury during the dispute. Instead of continuing the play and getting close to scoring the goal, Pepê stopped the play so that his rival could be attended to by doctors.

The Porto player’s attitude was applauded by the majority of fans, as well as receiving applause from opposing players.

When the play happened, Porto was winning 1-0. Afterwards, Pepê was rewarded, scoring the team’s second goal. Porto is second in the Portuguese Championship, which is led by Sporting.

Revelation of Paraná football, Pepê was involved in controversy

Revealed by Foz do Iguaçu and with spells in the youth teams of Athletico and Coritiba, Pepê transferred to Grêmio in 2016. After standing out with the club’s shirt from Rio Grande do Sul, the player was sold to Porto, from Portugal, in 2021.

At the time, Grêmio traded the athlete for 15 million euros (R$98 million at the time). The club from Rio Grande do Sul would pay Foz’s percentage after Porto paid the last installment of Pepê’s purchase, which occurred in 2022.

Foz charges 30% of Pepê’s economic rights, which would correspond to around R$30 million, which should be paid by Grêmio to the Paraná club. Tricolor even made a proposal to pay R$5 million, divided into 12 installments. However, Foz refused the proposal.
