More than 74 million Americans voted for president

More than 74 million people across the United States voted early to elect president, ahead of the election taking place on November 5.

The number of voters voting early in many US states this year is at a record high, with 4.5 million people voting in North Carolina while the state is recovering from the consequences of Hurricane Helene. Georgia voters also set a record with 4 million people voting early.

In Pennsylvania, about 1.7 million people voted early by mail ballot, despite fierce controversy over the counting of this type of vote. A total of 9 US states recorded more than 50% of eligible voters voting for president. As of November 3, more than 74 million people in the United States had voted early out of a total of about 244 million voters.

Recent polls show that the competition between candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is very close. The final result seems to depend on 7 battleground states including Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and North Carolina.

For a long time, US states have allowed people to vote early, such as military personnel and those who cannot go to the polls on November 5. In 2020, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, many states have relaxed conditions allowing voters to vote early.

AP Citing early voting data, it shows that as of November 3, Democratic candidate Harris is prevailing in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, while Trump is ahead in the states of Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina. In the remaining battleground states, there is no specific data on votes for each candidate.

On election day November 5, about 170 million remaining American voters will go to the polls to choose the country’s 47th president, determining whether the victory belongs to Mr. Trump or Ms. Harris.
