“Everything is possible”: the project to maintain the TGV lines is open

Competition on the French rails is only in its infancy and the SNCF and the government are already tearing their hair out. The arrival of rival companies on the most profitable TGV lines for the national carrier is shaking up the high-speed economic model. It has always been based on equalization: profitable journeys finance deficit services. This system finds itself weakened by the arrival of competitors, determined to take the lion’s share. “For now, we can hold on. But, in the long term, this will obviously pose a problem,” says an internal source.
