A big burden is lifted off Salzburg’s shoulders

There was relief on the part of Salzburg’s players and coaches after the 3-1 away win at Feyenoord Rotterdam and their first point win of this Champions League season.

Salzburg coach Pepijn Lijnders I liked how his team silenced the Dutch fans: “I’m very happy, it was a very good performance. With compactness, unity, aggressiveness. We managed to make the stadium quiet. It’s not easy here.”

On the low expectations before the game: “Of course it helps, a big weight is lifted off your shoulders. We wanted to enjoy it and performed well in this situation.”

defender Samson Baidoo praised Salzburg’s patience: “Today you could see that we really performed as a team. We were compact, did well and earned three points. Even though it got loud, we didn’t let it stress us out. After the 2-1 win, we still stuck to it and pressed.”

Nicolas Capaldo believes that this victory can be a turning point in the current season: “The victory was really important. It was very difficult for us in the first few games. It wasn’t easy in the first half, but the 1-0 made it easier. We then controlled the game. That gives us a lot of confidence for the next games.”

Austria’s team defender Gernot Traunera mainstay in the Feyenoord game, knew what was going wrong for his team: “We couldn’t completely put our stamp on the game. There was a lack of accuracy on the last pass. We have had our moments. There was also a lack of intensity and energy; Salzburg was superior to us. But it wasn’t as clear-cut as it sounds.”
