The 20-year-old girl had a thyroid tumor for 4 years but did not treat it. Recently, the tumor swelled and blocked her airway, causing difficulty breathing and swallowing.

On November 4, Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat, Post Office Hospital, said that a grade three right lobe thyroid tumor compresses the neck area, causing difficulty swallowing and loss of aesthetics. The doctor prescribed tumor removal to ensure function.

However, the tumor located in the anterior neck area is very large and rich in nourishing blood vessels. The tumor pushes the laryngeal nerve out of its anatomical position, causing difficulty during surgery.

After 90 minutes, the doctor successfully removed the tumor, the patient had no bleeding, infection, or hoarseness after surgery.

Thyroid tumor or thyroid nodule is a condition in which solid or liquid nodules or masses form within the thyroid parenchyma. These tumors cause changes in the function and mechanism of the thyroid gland. The large tumor causes swelling in the front neck area, but most people are subjective or afraid to go to the hospital for examination because they think this is a benign tumor.

Doctor Duc recommends that when detecting abnormalities in the neck area accompanied by symptoms of difficulty swallowing and hoarseness, you should see a doctor. Do not wait until the thyroid tumor is too large, affecting the patient’s health and psychology.
