Giorgetti explains the cuts to funding for Rome’s Metro C

“In the case of Metro C in Rome, as far as I know, we are in a phase in which the definitive design is missing and I fear that it cannot be done in 20 days. But the work is meritorious and let’s try to find a way, based on accounting rules so that the allocations are made but fiscal budget space is not burned. And this applies to all the works of all administrations”. Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said this in his replies at the hearing on the maneuver before the joint budget commissions, when asked about the cut in funds intended for the Rome Metro C section from Prati to the Farnesina, which should be reduced by 425 million euros .

“The logic behind the new rules, whether you like them or not, some of them seem absurd to me, is that – Giorgetti specified – you have to allocate expenses when you are sure that they can be done otherwise that fiscal space is essentially burned. Help the economy minister to make a good impression, to win the austere Nobel in Brussels, because they become budget economies. The administrations ask for appropriations must concretely demonstrate to me that they have the executive project, that they are able to spend in the 2025, in ’26 or in ’27. The Minister of Economy puts exactly the numbers that are needed.”
