The Hungarian Government recommends Orban’s son-in-law’s hotel to attendees of the EU leaders’ summit

The Hungarian Government has recommended a hotel owned by the Prime Minister’s son-in-law Viktor Orban to the participants and delegations participating this Friday in the European Union leaders summit which is held in Budapest, according to the portal Direct36.

He Hotel Dorothea five stars and owned by Istvén Tiborcz the husband of Orban’s daughter, Ráhel, is one of the five that the Hungarian presidency of the European Union (EU) recommended to the delegations participating in the meeting, which began this Thursday.

Direct36an investigative journalism portal, clarifies that the delegations They are not required to book at that establishmentbut it does indicate, citing anonymous diplomatic sources, that the Hungarian presidency of the EU has offered discounts in it.

“Dorothea was recommended in connection with several events related to the (Hungarian EU) presidency. I wonder how much money the son-in-law has earned from the presidency,” he told Direct36 an unidentified diplomat.

Several diplomats who have arrived at the summit and who have requested anonymity, informed the portal that the Hungarian presidency has recommended “especially the Dorothea, informing them that the hotel offers very favorable packages.”

Tiborcz is ranked 19th on the list of the 100 richest people in Hungary, with an estimated fortune in 2024 of 246 million euros, 44% more than last year.

So far neither the European Council nor the Hungarian presidency has reacted to the portal’s claims.

Budapest hosted the meeting of the European Political Community (CPE) with the participation of delegations from 47 countries, while on Thursday and Friday the informal EU summit.
