Led by a strong Franz Wagner, the Orlando Magic stopped their losing streak in the NBA. The team from Florida comfortably won its home game against the New Orleans Pelicans with 115:88. For the Magic it was the first win after five defeats and the first game won since top star Paolo Banchero was out due to injury.
World champion Franz Wagner was his team’s best scorer with 27 points, while his brother Moritz scored 17 points as a bench player. Rookie Tristan da Silva, on the other hand, didn’t have a good evening, he only hit three of his eleven shots from the field and finished the game with seven points. World champion Daniel Theis played twelve minutes for the guests from New Orleans and scored two points.
Schröder misses out on surprise with Brooklyn
Meanwhile, Dennis Schröder and the Brooklyn Nets missed out on a notable success. The team from New York forced the reigning champions Boston Celtics into overtime in their own hall, but narrowly lost out there with 104:108. National team captain Schröder scored 20 points, but still struggled. The 31-year-old only converted nine of 23 shots from the field. Cam Thomas was even more successful with 31 points at Brooklyn, while Jayson Tatum was outstanding at the Celtics with 33 points.
Things went better for the other New York team. The New York Knicks easily won against the Milwaukee Bucks 116:94. On the Knicks side, the German Ariel Hukporti was able to play for three minutes and collected at least two rebounds in this short time. However, he still has to wait for his first points in the NBA.
The outstanding player for the Knicks and the best thrower of the entire game was Karl-Anthony Towns with 32 points. The Bucks, on the other hand, suffered their next setback just one day after the important win against the Utah Jazz – mainly because hardly anything came from the three-point line: Less than a quarter of all attempts from distance found their way in for Milwaukee the basket. Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 24 points.
Cleveland sets NBA record
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers continued their historic start to the season. The Cavs won against the Golden State Warriors 136:117 and celebrated their tenth win in their tenth game of the season. Cleveland is also the first team in NBA history to win all of its first ten games of the season and always score at least 110 points.
