City suffers Guardiola’s worst streak and Liverpool escapes

Manchester City lost (2-1) this Saturday against Brighton on the eleventh matchday of the Premier, which Liverpool then took advantage of to be the leader of the English league, with five cushion points, thanks to a 2-0 over Aston Villa at Anfield.

The champion suffered four defeats in a row, between the League, the Cup and the Champions League, to confirm an unprecedented slump for Pep Guardiola’s teams. The Spanish coach had never lost four games in a row in his career and the Manchester team suffered in the south of England despite starting ahead.

Erling Haaland made it 0-1 like a ‘jackal’ 20 minutes into the game, in an action that Kovacic started with the steal and the pass. However, Brighton’s second half was worthy of a team that once again wants to be a revelation team. Joao Pedro and O’Riley took advantage of the weakness at the back of a more vulnerable City.

Guardiola’s men showed that laziness once again and left the Amex Stadium empty, while Brighton placed fourth. City’s setback (23 points) was taken advantage of by the leader Liverpool (28) in front of their fans, in another recital of a team that is going smoothly, managing the games to hit almost at will.

Arne Slot’s men, a surprising replacement for Jurgen Klopp on the Anfield bench, punished a shaken Villa with four more defeats in a row. Unai Emery’s men barely left their field in the first half and, when they did, Liverpool bit on the counter, as in Villa’s corner kick that Darwin Núñez converted to make it 1-0 in the 20th minute.

Shortly after, the ‘villains’ were very close to making the same mistake, but the Uruguayan forward forgave the one-on-one. With a header from Diego Carlos and a couple of offensive stretches, Emery’s team was able to get oil, but they were again at their mercy in the second half. When the visiting team decided to take a risk, Liverpool made it 2-0 with Mo Salah in the 84th minute.

For the rest of Saturday, Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth saw their momentum slowed with a tough defeat (3-2) against Brentford and Fulham beat Crystal Palace (0-2) to continue aspiring to the European zone of the table. Below, West Ham and Everton tied (0-0) without moving away from that red zone where Wolves achieved their first victory of the season, with a 2-0 win over Southampton.
