“We want to thank Ivan Juric for his hard work in the last few weeks”. As Roma wrote this in a note published on the website at the end of the match lost at home against Bologna 3-2. “He managed a difficult environment with the utmost professionalism – continues the company – and for this we are grateful. We wish him all the best for his future. The search for a new manager of the technical area has already begun and will be announced in the next few days.” Thus ends Roma’s dark day, sinking under the blows of Bologna, who won at the Olimpico by three goals to two. A rain of whistles after the fourth consecutive defeat in the last five championship days for the Giallorossi.
“We immediately wanted to issue the official statement, we must thank Mr. Juric who arrived in a difficult situation. He gave his best from day one, now it’s time to reflect to make the best decision in the club’s interest” , said the Roma sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi speaking to Dazn, “Juric has a very ambitious type of football, but this is not the time to cling to excuses. He did his best in a complicated moment. We apologize to the fans, we are all responsible for this situation” . “Now I can say that the Friedkin’s objective is to win, as it is for the fans. We will try to manage this crisis, but I don’t like the word transition. We are Roma and we must overcome this moment. All that remains is to take on the our responsibilities”, added the Giallorossi manager.
The match report
Nn the twelfth matchday of Serie A: goals from Santiago Castro, Riccardo Orsolini and Jesper Karlsson decide. However, El Shaarawy’s brace was useless for the purposes of the result. Third consecutive championship success for the Italian team. After an initial study phase, the rossoblu team finds the first conclusion towards the goal with Miranda, which however is blocked without problems by Svilar. In the 16th minute it’s Pisilli who, after an exchange with Dovbyk, goes to shoot but even in this case there is little power and Skorupski manages to neutralize easily.
A few minutes later Orsolini beats Angelino and crosses for Ndoye, who fails to find the ball and ends up against the post: the attacker suffers an injury and has to leave the pitch on a stretcher, making way for Karlsson. In the 25th minute Vincenzo Italiano’s boys took the lead with Santiago Castro who, following a corner kick, made the winning tap-in in the scrum. Roma’s response was not long in coming, in fact, in the 30th minute it hit a sensational crossbar with Soulé who, after receiving the ball from Koné, came very close to equalising. The Capitoline team still tries to break through the wall erected by the opposing defense, but struggles to make itself truly dangerous; we therefore go to rest with a score of 0-1.
In the second half Ivan Juric decided to introduce fresh forces to try to resume the match and his team created some interesting opportunities with Stephan El Shaarawy. The attacker first came close to scoring from a free kick and then in the 63rd minute he scored the winning header on an assist from Mancini, making it 1-1 thanks also to an error from Skorupski. There wasn’t even time to rejoice for the Giallorossi, as Bologna immediately took the lead again in the 66th minute with the usual Riccardo Orsolini who, following a pass from Castro, flew towards the goal and beat Svilar.
In the 72nd minute Roma risked capitulating with Dallinga’s Bolo hat-trick, but the goal was disallowed by VAR due to a handball by the Dutchman. The appointment with Bologna’s third goal, however, was only postponed as in the 77th minute Jesper Karlsson, following Miranda’s suggestion, scored his first goal in Italy to make it 3-1. The Giallorossi didn’t give up and in the 82nd minute they reopened the contest once again thanks to Stephan El Shaarawy, who sent a powerful shot under the crossbar, giving the crowd a thrilling finish.
In the final minutes Dovbyk has a great chance to equalize, but the Ukrainian fails to exploit it and, after a near brawl, the Emilians manage to defend the 3-2 until the final whistle. By virtue of this result, Bologna rises to 18 points while Roma, under the boos of the Olimpico, suffers their fourth defeat in the last five matches and remains on 13. After the break the Giallorossi will face Napoli at the Maradona, while the Rossoblu they will return to the Olimpico to challenge Lazio.
