Israel | The disruptions in credit payments: an external attack that does not endanger citizens’ financial information

The National Cyber System updates that in the last two and a half hours a load attack on the credit clearing company Hype Credit Guard caused temporary disruptions in the ability to use credit cards in stores and other payment services. The cyber system clarifies that this is an external attack on the systems that creates a load on the service, but that does not affect the credit information and does not pose a danger to the financial information of citizens. The attack is being handled and contained and the systems are in the stages of rising safely back.

“Today’s attack creates a deliberate load on servers and communication lines,” explains Hadas Ben Avraham, head of the Institute for Cyber Risks at the Ono Academic Caria. “The result is a sort of artificial traffic jam – so that users or surfers are unable to use the services.”

According to Ben Avraham, in contrast to other attacks aimed at stealing data, today’s DDOS type attack is only intended to disrupt current activities: “The ability to carry out an attack of this magnitude indicates sophistication and access to significant resources. These phenomena are recognized in the international arena, where countries and organizations find themselves exposed to such attacks This. In the current war in Israel, similar to other wars in the world at this time, cyber is used as a major combat tool.”
