The Mexico City Airport Group (GACM), in coordination with VivaAerobus, inaugurated the operations of the new Mexico City (AIFA)-Ciudad Obregón route, which will connect the municipality of Cajeme and surrounding areas of southern Sonora with the capital of the country and its metropolitan area.
The Secretary of the Navy, through the GACM, reported that this new route is added to those that VivaAerobus already operates from the Ciudad Obregón International Airport to Monterrey and soon to Guadalajara.

.
The inauguration of this new route is part of the initiative Flight Attraction
which strengthens the air connectivity of this airport, to turn it into an engine of regional development, with leisure, business and cargo travel, for the benefit of the community.
On the other hand, the International Airport Association for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) estimated that the region will end 2024 with an air traffic volume of 773 million passengers, which means an increase of 5.5 percent compared to 2023 and 12.4 percentage points compared to 2019, the period prior to the covid-19 pandemic.
The forecast is that this year domestic traffic will grow 14 percent and that international traffic will increase 6 percent compared to 2023.
The data indicate that this year air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean will represent 8 percent of the global volume, and is expected to reach 9.5 billion passengers.
