Oilers win again – Connor McDavid reaches milestone

The Edmonton Oilers around German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl remain on the road to success in the NHL. With a 3:2 (0:1, 2:0, 0:1) home win after overtime over the Nashville Predators, last year’s finalists clinched their third win in a row in the North American ice hockey league. The focus was on Draisaitl’s co-star Connor McDavid.

McDavid scored on a pass from Draisaitl at the start of the second period to equalize the score at 1-1. With this goal, McDavid reached the mark of 1,000 scoring points in his NHL career. The 27-year-old attacker needed 659 games to achieve this; in NHL history only Wayne Gretzky (424 games), Mario Lemieux (513) and Mike Bossy (656) reached this milestone faster.

Draisaitl on McDavid: “Stuff for legends”

“Just seeing how happy my teammates and fans were was means a lot to me. For me, that’s more important than the pure numbers,” said McDavid about his milestone. “This is a special moment, the stuff of legends. I first met him when he was 18 years old. Seeing him develop like that is just great,” said Draisaitl about his teammate. The two have been on the ice together for the Oilers since 2015.

Darnell Nurse scored Edmonton’s winning goal after two and a half minutes in overtime, in which both McDavid and Draisaitl were involved. This brings Draisaitl to ten assists this season.

Peterka wins after extra time, Stützle loses after extra time

JJ Peterka and his team were also successful after extra time, the Buffalo Sabers beat the St. Louis Blues 4:3 (2:1, 0:2, 1:0) at home. Peterka prepared Rasmus Dahlin’s winning goal from the power play after a minute and a half in extra time.

Tim Stützle and his team had to admit defeat after extra time, his Ottawa Senators lost 4:5 (1:1, 1:1, 2:2) at home to the Philadelphia Flyers. Stützle set up Drake Batherson to make it 2-1 in the second half.
