Bluesky, the alternative social network to X, gains 1 million users in 24 hours

The American social network Blueskywhich claims to be an alternative to X, announced this Friday that it gained one million users in 24 hours, at a time when Elon Musk’s platform is registering numerous casualties.

“It’s official, 1,000,000 people have joined Bluesky in just the last day! Welcome and thank you for being here1″, the platform wrote in a message published on Bluesky and X (ex Twitter).

Bluesky’s breakthrough comes after US President-elect Donald Trump will give Musk — who owns X — an important role in reforming the federal government heading a newly created department.

The South African-born tycoon, also owner of Tesla and SpaceX, supported the Republican in his race for the White House and contributed money to his campaign.

Since purchasing Twitter in 2022, Musk has greatly relaxed moderation rules on the platform, authorizing e.g. the return to the network of accounts linked to far-right movements.

The British newspaper The Guardian and the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia announced this week that they will stop publishing content on X considering that it has become a “toxic” media platform that promotes misinformation.

Bluesky was developed by Jack Dorsey, creator of the old Twitter, and has a blue butterfly as a logo that inevitably reminds us of the little blue bird that characterized that social network.

The network has 16 million users, strong growth for a platform that had 10 million in mid-September.
