Sinner overwhelms Ruud 6-1 6-2 in 70 minutes. At 6pm the final against Fritz

At the ATP Finals everything goes according to prediction. Jannik Sinner accede alla finale (the second in a row after the defeat suffered by Nole Djokovic in the previous edition) and today at 6 pm the trophy will be played against the American Taylor Fritz, number 5 on the circuit, who he has already met and defeated at the start of the group and who surprisingly on Saturday 16 November he beat Alexander Zverev in three sets.

At stake are 1500 ATP points and a check for 4,881,500 dollars. The world number one didn’t have too much effort to get rid of Norwegian Casper Ruud in the semi-final, defeating 6-1 6-2 in an hour and ten minutes.

Sinner, who continues not to lose a set and is in exceptional form, gave the impression of control and be able to put your foot on the accelerator (and he did it) as and when he wanted. Only at 3-2 and serve in his favor did he risk suffering a counter-break, canceling two balls of 3-3 to Ruud at 15-40. Then nothing more. Such dominance and a difference in category between the world no.1 and an opponent in the top-10 (with merit) has not been seen on the tennis courts since the days of the ‘Big Three’. For Sinner it is victory number 69 (against 6 defeats) of 2024.

“I’m very happy with this performance. I started very well, especially at the beginning of breaking him immediately, which gave me a lot of confidence. I’m happy with how I played – explained Sinner at the end of the match – and how I reacted when he he had the opportunity to counter-break in the first set. It will be a very difficult match again, very tough, but I can’t wait to get on the court and then we’ll see what happens.”

I’m trying to play one hundred percent any day and I can’t control the outcome, I can only control how I am on the pitch, how much energy I can use of what the public transmits to me. I think it was a match that could have been complicated, because I was still ahead with a break, but then I found myself 15-40 and if I had lost that game maybe the match would have been different. Instead I was good at staying there mentally and then in the second I tried to raise the pace and I succeeded”, explained Sinner. Then commenting on reaching the second consecutive final at the ATP Finals, the South Tyrolean observed: “It’s a very similar situation to the one I was in last year, except that I have grown in 12 months as a player. Today will still be a very interesting day, I’m happy to be in this position again. It’s very special”

The 2024 edition of the Nitto ATP Finals 2024 is the richest ever among the ATP tournaments with a total prize pool that has risen from 15 million last season to 15,250,000 US dollars this seasona slight increase. The jackpot for the undefeated winner, which is exceptionally against the trend, is lower than that offered in Riyadh for the WTA Finals, where the undefeated winner collects 5.15 million dollars. However, the record prize money for winning a tournament does not belong to the ATP Finals, but to ‘Six Kings Slam’ in Riyadh, a super luxury performance outside the ATP circuit held for the first time on 16, 17 and 19 October this year: for the winner of the three days in Saudi Arabia the prize was 6 million dollars. And it was Sinner who took it home, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The Italian no.1 in the world now also aims to win the second highest prize money ever. Thus, in prizes alone, he would earn eleven million dollars in a month.
