The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, said he was in favor of the trade pact between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) being maintained between the three countries, but also acknowledged that he is willing to analyze other optionsdepending, he declared, on the decisions of Claudia Sheinbaum’s government.

Trudeau explained that he raised his concerns about Chinese investment in Mexico with President Claudia Sheinbaum during their G20 meeting last weekend in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, adding that they agreed to remain in close contact.

Trudeau stated that Real and genuine concerns have been raised about Chinese investment in Mexico. Politicians in the United States and Canada have expressed concerns that under the USMCA, Chinese companies could assemble cars in Mexico and ship them north, avoiding tariffs.
