The Government estimates the increase in CDN’s own productions at 22% and attendance at 7% in the last decade

The Government estimates the increase in own productions and co-productions in the last ten years of the National Dramatic Center (CDN) at 22.6 percent, while employment has increased by 7.8 percent in this same period.

This is stated by the Executive in a written response, to which Europa Press has had access, in response to a question registered in Congress by the Popular Group.

Specifically, the Government explains that the CDN has increased the number of its own productions and co-productions by 22.6 percent in the last ten years and they add that the number of transversal and mediation activities has also increased by 43 percent.

“The National Dramatic Center has prioritized the creation of its own projects and long-term exhibition, both of its own productions and co-productions and of invited companies, which has generated a reduction in the number of invited companies with short periods of exhibition (between 1 and 3 days) by 61 percent, affecting said reduction in the number of premieres,” indicates the Government.

Regarding attendance ratios, the Executive points out that in the 2023/2024 season, 119,506 spectators attended the CDN, which corresponds to an occupancy percentage of 89.28 percent. In this regard, they compare these data with years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and highlight that in 2017 there were 122,195 spectators, with an occupancy percentage of 88.38 percent; and in 2018, 133,830 spectators, with an occupancy percentage of 85.27 percent.

Therefore, they explain that, compared to 2017, there has been an increase in occupancy of 1 percent and 4.5 percent compared to 2018. In addition, they insist that in the last decade, the occupancy percentage of the National Dramatic Center has increased by 7.8 percent.

Finally, they point out that the measures that Culture will promote in this regard will be aimed at maintaining and improving the positive results achieved in terms of the diversification of productions and the increase in attendance during the last 10 years.
