The United States is trying to push France out of the ceasefire in Lebanon

The journalist and political commentator of the Saudi Al-Hadth channel, Ibrahim admitted referred today (Monday) to France’s efforts to be a significant factor in developments in the Middle East, to the dismay of Israel and the United States.

“The United States is trying to convince France not to take part in the monitoring mechanism in Lebanon, thereby supporting the Israeli position,” she said. “France tried to act alone in the Lebanese case, to try unsuccessfully to achieve progress, and this greatly angered the Israelis and the Americans.”

She mentioned: “This is not new, France has been trying to be a major player in the region for years. For years it has been trying to mediate between the various factions within Lebanon, and in the conflict between Israel and Lebanon. We have seen President Emmanuel Macron constantly sending senior government officials and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Lebanon. But the problem is That even the Americans are not able to stand up to Israel and restrain it, so how can France?”

In the meantime, media outlets in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, as well as American officials claim that the ceasefire in the north will come into effect “within hours”. A senior American official told the website that the draft cease-fire agreement includes a 60-day transition period, during which the IDF will withdraw from southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army will be deployed in the areas near the border, and Hezbollah will move its heavy weapons north of the Litani River.

The Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awast added that US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to announce on Tuesday morning a “ceasefire” between Lebanon and Israel, for 60 days.

Lebanon and Saudi Arabia also confirmed that the cease-fire agreement is expected to enter into force soon, with Netanyahu scheduling a limited consultation on the settlement in the north for tomorrow. Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Elias Bou Saab to Reuters: “There are no serious obstacles” to the beginning of the implementation of the ceasefire proposed by the US.

After the final agreements between the parties, the political-security cabinet is expected to convene to approve the arrangement, and immediately after that the agreement will be submitted to the government for approval. Before the cabinet, Netanyahu called a meeting of the heads of the coalition. According to estimates, the required majority in favor of the settlement is guaranteed in both the cabinet and the government, despite the opposition to the agreement by the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gabir.
