Rugby, Brendan Mullin sentenced to 3 years in prison

Brendan Mullin, Irish rugby legend, was sentenced to 3 years in prison for theft from Bank of Ireland Private Bank. The 61-year-old Irishman, who had been a director of the bank for two years (from 2011 to 2013) he was accused by a jury of having stolen an amount exceeding 500 thousand euros from the institute. For him, there are a total of 12 charges and among these the crimes of fraud and false accounting stand out.

Mullin convicted

In 2021, the former rugby player – an icon of the national team between the 1980s and 1990s – was sentenced to 3 years, but then released on bail. The investigation concerns the company Spice Holdings to whom Mullin had transferred 500 thousand euros from Bank of Ireland Private Bank. Money never returned. According to the ruling, Mullin also allegedly used 61 thousand euros from the bank to pay personal legal expenses.
