Tourist yacht sinks in the Red Sea, 17 missing. There are no Italians involved

Seventeen people are missing including foreign citizens, and 28 others were rescued after one tourist yacht capsized off the coast of Red Sea. The vessel was carrying 31 tourists of various nationalities and a crew of 14 members when a distress signal was sent at 5:30 am (local time), a statement from the Red Sea governorate said. At the moment, as Farnesina sources know, no Italians are involved.

According to reconstructions of the newspapers the ship, Sea Storysank near the Ras Satayeh reef, north of Marsa Alam. She left Porto Ghalib yesterday and was due to return to Hurghada Marina on November 29th. The authorities received a distress signal from the vessel at 5.30am today. Search and rescue operations are underway with Navy and Air Force participation, the governor’s office said.

 

The accident occurs a month after a collision between two boats off Egypt’s Mediterranean coast killed at least two people and injured several others. The resorts and beaches of the Red Sea in Egypt are very popular with tourists. According to Farnesina sources, there were no Italians involved. The Italian embassy and consulate are in contact with the local authorities who are involved in the rescue operations for further confirmation.
