Trump announced that he would impose additional tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico

The US President-elect, Donald Trump, announced his intention to impose an additional 10% tariff on all products imported from China – according to a post published tonight on his social network, Truth Social.

The post came immediately after he announced that his first presidential order, upon taking office on January 20, would include 25% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada – a move that would cancel the regional free trade agreement.

Trump noted that the decision comes against the background of problems of illegal immigration and drug trafficking, especially in the drug fentanyl produced in China and Mexico, which has caused many deaths in the US in recent years. According to him, Beijing has not kept its commitments to increase the punishment for drug trafficking.

“Drugs are flowing into our country, primarily through Mexico, at unprecedented levels,” Trump said. “Until they stop it, we will impose an additional 10% tariff on China.”
