Google Pixel Watch 3, available in Spain since the middle of last August, it has not arrived with any notable new features in relation to its appearance, although it has shown to make the expected leap in terms of autonomy, since this time it does extend beyond 24 hours, although It is still a problem to highlight for a device from which we expected more.
The brand’s new smartwatches are practically the same in appearance as their predecessors, with a circular body, curved glass and a silicone sports strap with a soft-touch coating. This is placed with the same procedure as in the Pixel Watch 2, with a simple and very aesthetic anchoring.
However, the most interesting thing about this third generation is that it offers two sizes, since a second, 45 mm, is added to the 41 mm of the previous versions. This gives an extra option to users with larger wrists, for whom the smaller format looks ridiculous. Both variants are also offered with WiFi or LTE, which also causes their price to vary.
If you want to get the latest devices presented by the brand at once, it should be noted that the 45 mm model does not include the model with the silver aluminum case and pink quartz sports strap, so it cannot be combined with the Pixel 9 chosen in that color.
Although they differ in their weight (31 grams for the 41 mm and 37 grams for the 45 mm), They share the same features, starting with the Actua AMOLED screen at 320 dpi with custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. This is especially noticeable in open spaces and with direct sunlight, since the panel is seen very clearly.
If we commented on the previous model that its screen was poorly used due to the wide margins it offered, what stands out most about this other one is, precisely, a change in its ‘software’, since the new version Wear OS 5.0 displays the interface with a constant black background, so the range of what you see seems even wider than what it actually offers. Its real thickness, however, is demonstrated by scrolling between notifications, when we can make sure that the borders are still too wide.
In any case, the interface has a more useful and attractive design, and it can be navigated both through the touch screen and the side buttons and its rotating crown, which shows the different menus available. without having to “stain” the panel with fingerprints. This is especially helpful during an exercise session.
LARGE BATTERY, ALTHOUGH IT IS STILL LIMITED
As for your batterywhich has a capacity of 307 mAh in the model we have tested (420mAh in the largest size), it lasts a day and a half at most, somewhat longer than the Google Watch 2, as long as you do not set the Always on Display (AOD) mode and its use is not excessive.
Charging it is not difficult, but it does require taking into account the position of the device, since the cable is located on the side of the crown. This, unlike other brands, where you just have to place the ‘smartwatch’ on the base for it to start charging. We are also not convinced that the cable is USB-C: those who have older power adapters, with USB, will find themselves in the need to charge their ‘smartwatch’ with a computer.
Charging times are also reduced compared to the previous generation, but this is mainly noticeable when charging from 0 to 100, since doing so does not exceed one hour, when Pixel Watch 2 took almost 75 minutes to complete. In any case, the fact that it is necessary to charge the device every so often still seems like a delay to us, although it is not something exclusive to Google, since other wearables that we have tested at Portaltic have shown similar limitations.
Unfortunately, we have not had the opportunity to learn how the features focused on physical activity and fitness powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) work. Fitbit Premiumas we have encountered problems connecting with our email address.
These metrics, more detailed than those offered by the free option, require a subscription that is included for six months with the purchase of the device. Once this period of time has passed, You must pay 8.99 euros per month or 79.99 euros per year to access more precise statistics or personalized guides through a wizard.
In short, Google Watch 3 is the perfect complement for those interested in the new Google Pixel 9 (and even more so if you have the opportunity to combine it in the same color), as well as for those looking for a larger panel in this ‘wearable’ than that of his predecessor.
There is no doubt that the 45 mm model is a great success and with it Google expands the number of potential customers, although this version is only available in black, lichen green or silver. To expand the tones, however, you have to go to the smallest format, which does introduce the color pink.
The extension of its battery life is another detail to take into account, although those looking for other features in this iteration will not find major differences compared to the Google Pixel Watch 2, since it continues to incorporate functions such as water resistance up to 50 meters deep. , NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5 and 4G LTE WiFi.
Hence the price difference between one and the other can be a determining factor when choosing between the oldest model, which currently has a price of about 279 euros, compared to the most recent, which starts at 399 euros in the case of the smallest size (41 mm) and 449 euros in the case of the largest.
