The Teatro Real reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and its generating function in the Spanish economic and social fabric

This Wednesday, the Teatro Real has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and its generating function in the economic and social fabric of Spain at the XXXIII meeting of the institution’s Board of Protectors.

The event took place at the CEOE headquarters in Madrid, where the president of this organization, Antonio Garamendi, hosted a meeting led by Gregorio Marañón, president of the Teatro Real, and Fernando Ruiz, president of the Board, in which the members of the Board have participated, in addition to Ignacio García-Belenguer and Borja Ezcurra, general and deputy directors of the Teatro Real, as well as representatives of 55 Spanish companies.

One of the points that focused on the meeting was the Sustainability plan of the Teatro Real, started in 2020 with its Carbon Footprint Reduction project, with which it achieves significant energy and economic savings.

Due to the efficiency improvements implemented, the Royal Theater will achieve final energy savings of 963,159 kWh/year, a reduction of 48 percent compared to previous consumption levels, the equivalent of stopping emitting 263 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere or the annual absorption capacity of 1,575 trees.

All of this represents a two-letter jump in the building’s energy certification, which goes from a D to a B rating. In the internationalization section, Gregorio Marañón has highlighted the return of the Teatro Real to Carnegie Hall (New York) on the 5th of December. June, and the concert in New York on December 10, of their loyalty program in the United States, American Fellows. Cooperation with Asia, focused on China, Japan and South Korea, is another substantial element of its activity outside Spain.
