Israel and Hezbollah began a ceasefire on the morning of November 27 under a 60-day agreement brokered by the US and France. Israel will gradually withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah will end its armed presence south of the Litani River, about 29 km from the border with Israel. The Lebanese army will manage the territory close to the border with Israel.

Thousands of Lebanese displaced by the conflict have begun to return home. The IDF asked Lebanese people not to return to villages near the border, where the force is still present.

Fighting between Hezbollah and Israel broke out in October 2023, after Israel launched an operation in Gaza in retaliation for a Hamas raid. Hezbollah launched rocket and UAV attacks on Israeli territory to show support for its ally Hamas, causing Tel Aviv to respond. The recent conflict escalated, with Israel repeatedly killing senior members of Hezbollah and sending troops into southern Lebanon.

Lebanese health officials today said that Israeli airstrikes in the country have killed at least 3,961 people and injured more than 16,500 people since October 2023. Israel says at least 45 civilians have died from Hezbollah raids on northern Israel and the Golan Heights. More than 70 IDF soldiers were also killed in the above two areas and southern Lebanon.
