Demonstrations and clashes near parliament resumed in Georgia

Opposition demonstrations have resumed in Georgia, demanding repeat parliamentary elections and the resumption of negotiations on accession to the European Union. Demonstrations are taking place not only in Tbilisi, but also in Kutaisi, Batumi and other cities.

In the Georgian capital, demonstrators blocked Rustaveli Avenue near the parliament. According to incoming information, protesters are throwing stones and firecrackers at the building, as well as police officers. The police respond with water cannons.

Let us remind you: on October 26, parliamentary elections were held in Georgia, which were won by the pro-Russian European Dream party. Other parties claimed massive fraud and refused to recognize the voting results. President Salome Zurabishvili supported the opposition.

On November 28, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that negotiations on joining the European Union have been stopped until 2028. He accused “European politicians and bureaucrats” of using allocated grants and loans to blackmail his country.
