Dear, dearest Christmas. 11 billion to spend for the holy night

For next Christmas, between lunch, gifts, decorations and trips, we’re talking about increases up to 300%. The joint report reveals this Facile.it – ​​Consumerism No Profit According to the survey commissioned by the research institute Emg Different during the holidays, for only Christmas gifts the Italians they will spend almost 11 billion euros, with a per capita outlay of 256 euros.

Around 6.2 million compatriots, however, have admitted that they will spend less than last year and among these 47% (over 2.9 million individuals) will do so because other expenses have increased and they prefer to cut costs, 40%, instead, because it is in a period of economic difficulty. Pfor lunch or Christmas dinner the interviewees declared that they budget on average 83 euros, for an estimated total expense of over 3.5 billion euros.

The food sector led the increase in inflation with a price increase of 2.4% compared to 1.1% in September 2024. The greatest increases concern the prices of basic necessities, such as pasta, oil, rice, flour and bread, with increases of up to 84% compared to 2014.

 

Then there’s the expense of decorations, to create a bit of a Christmas atmosphere. According to the report, in 2023, the average spending on decorating a traditional Christmas tree, considering the tree, lights and decorations, it was estimated at around 233,33 euro. In 2024, the figure has risen to approx 270 euros for a similar tree.

The survey also reveals that between Christmas and New Year 11 and a half million compatriots will treat themselves to one holiday with overnight stay of at least one night, for one average expense of 335 euros and an overall estimate of almost 4 billion.

 

For transport during the holidays, increases can reach up to 100%. As for example happens for a flight Milan – Bari where the increase is around 70-100%. It’s no better with the train. According to what was found by Consumerismo No Profit, costs increase proportionally for all railway routes, none excluded with poiled up to 300% compared to the annual average. The price record for this year is on the Milan-Reggio Calabria route with Trenitalia on Friday 20 December: the peak reached is 345 euros with a change in Rome and 9 hours and 26 minutes of travel.

On ferries, more modest increases, but still in double figures. For those who choose snow, know that ski passes have undergone increases of up to 30% in the last three years. Dolomiti Superski, for example, has increased the price of the daily ticket by 23.9% compared to 2021.

Lastly, the hotels that see a 8.1% increase in the average room pricetoday equal to 151.47 euros. 97% of travel agencies experience an average price increase of 20% per package. Among them most expensive destinations absolutely there are: Rome, Florence, Venice, cruises and, as expected, snow tourism.
