The European Investment Bank (EIB) and KBC are jointly earmarking 600 million euros for favorable loans to Belgian SMEs for sustainable investments. The EIB announced this today.
This concerns a loan of EUR 300 million from the EIB, which KBC itself supplements with the same amount. The financing facility of a total of 600 million euros should serve to help Belgian SMEs with sustainable investments. They can count on loans with lower interest rates.
In concrete terms, the facility is intended, among other things, for investments in water extraction and recycling, renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable transport, it said. Around 120 million euros is earmarked for lending in regions with lower economic activity (a GDP per head below 75 percent of the EU average). The final decision on granting the loans rests with KBC.
The EIB has been working with KBC since the 1990s. In total, the European institution has already provided more than 2.3 billion euros in favorable loans to the Belgian bank-insurer.
