Opel maintains its goal: 100% electric by 2028

Opel maintains its goal of having a 100% electric offer in 2028, despite the market difficulties. Word of the director of the German brand of the Stellantis group, Florian Huettl, who stated: “The cars we launch in the next generation will be 100% electric”, with a transition still set for 2028. The share of electric models in sales has fallen from 13% in 2023 to 10% from the beginning of 2024, particularly due to the elimination of purchase bonuses in Germany, the brand’s original market.

For Florian Huettl, the arrival in 2025 of the small SUV Frontera and the large SUV Grandland, which should be ordered en masse in battery-powered versions, should accelerate Opel’s electrification. Meanwhile, the brand continues Stellantis’ “multi-energy” strategy by offering hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric models based on common platforms with the Peugeot 208 (for the Opel Corsa), 308 (for the Opel Astra) and others models from the Stellantis group.

“It is a strategy that today proves to be very useful in the face of global uncertainty (on electricity), which began with Germany” at the end of 2023, Huettl underlined.
