Homemade sandwich bread and gifts: the offensive of Oise bakers in the face of “competition from manufacturers”

A mountain of toasters arranged in a pyramid piled up this Saturday, November 30 in the morning on a table in front of the boutique of Maison Lovin, the bakery in La Neuville-Roy (Oise). Customers who leave with a one-kilo artisanal loaf are entitled to one of these free devices. And in the memory of a baker, there has never been such a crowd in front of the shop in this village of 910 inhabitants.

This is the “Free Toaster” operation carried out by twenty bakers from Oise and their miller, Maison Foricher-les Moulins in Arnouville (Val-d’Oise). The first opus took place on Saturday at Ophélie and Thomas Gauvin and will continue for five months in the businesses participating in the action. Each craftsman has chosen the day when he will transform into Santa Claus for his customers.
