He video game for PlayStation Astro Bot has received four of the six statuettes it aspired to at The Game Awards 2024, including recognition for Best Game of the Year, a record that makes it the most awarded video game of this edition.
This year’s edition was held this Thursday, December 12 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (United States) and could be followed through streaming platforms such as YouTube and Twitch.
These awards, which are distributed in 29 categories, have an advisory board that includes personalities such as the president of Activision, Rob Kostich, the executive director of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, or the founder of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima. However, they are awarded based on the results of a public vote open to all users.
The host of the gala and creator of the awards is Geoff Keighley, who a few weeks ago revealed the video games nominated for these awards in their tenth edition, in which Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth were positioned as favorites, competing with a total of seven nominations each.
Astro Bot, for its part, has been crowned this year as the most recognized PlayStation title, as it has won the award for Best Game of the Year (GOTY), Best Direction, Best Game of action and adventure and Best family game.
The title that follows in relation to the number of awards is Balatro, the ‘roguelike’ that was nominated in five categories and has finally won the award in three of them: Best mobile game, Best indie game and Best indie debut.
There have also been three awards that Metaphor has received: Refantazio, a medieval fantasy role-playing video game that had six nominations and was finally chosen as the one that presents Best Narrative, Best Artistic Direction and Best RPG.
Best Audio Design and Best Performance, by German actress Melina Juerguens, went to Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, while Tekken 8 was recognized as the best fighting game.
The rest of the night’s protagonists have won an award in different categories, as is the case of Baldur’s Gate 3, which has been recognized as the Game with the greatest support from the gaming community. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, on the other hand, took the award for Best Soundtrack.
Batman: Arkham Shadow has received the votes of the public to become the Best virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) game, League of Legends has taken the award for Best eSports game; Black Myth: Wukong, for Best Action Game and EA Sports FC 25, for Best Sports and Racing Game.
The Best Strategy Game is, according to the latest edition of The Game Awards, Frostpunk 2, the driving title Grand Theft Auto VI, the Most Anticipated Game; and Neva has established itself as the Game with the greatest impact. Likewise, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been positioned as the Best title in innovation in accessibility.
