“The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim”, the animated film that worries Tolkien fans

We are two centuries before the events described in “The Lord of the Rings”. The people of Rohan, a human kingdom in Middle-earth, live in peace under the rule of their king, Helm, nicknamed “Hammerfist”. This colossus has two sons and a daughter, Hera who, despite her status as a princess, spends her time outside her palace and prefers to gallop with her horse on the great plains. But this tranquility is shattered when, following a combination of circumstances involving one of Helm’s overlords, a war breaks out and Rohan is threatened by a coalition of powerful enemies…

Let’s be clear from the outset: despite its title, this animated feature film ultimately has few links with the universe of John Tolkien, creator of the entire mythology of “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” . A few names, a few winks at the end of the plot to please the fans, and then that’s it. If Helm is indeed cited in the writer’s work, just like the kingdom of Rohan, this is not the case for Hera, for example.
