Salzburg parts ways with coach Lijnders

On Saturday, after the 3-0 win in the Bundesliga against Austria Klagenfurt Pepijn Lijnders still in the mood to joke. “In addition to skiing, I’m going to try to learn to snowboard. And I’m going to race down the slopes like an idiot – and get drunk on mulled wine,” the Dutchman said at the end of the press conference. Did he already know that he now had more time for his winter vacation?

Since Monday afternoon, Lijnders has been the coach of Red Bull Salzburg Story. He became released from dutyas it says in a release from the club. Also assistant coach Vitor Matos will no longer work for the Red Bulls.

“Unfortunately, we already had an analysis that we announced some time ago unsatisfactory autumn season started. It was clear to see that in far too many games we were far from our own standards and goals. So we ultimately came to the conclusion that our team needed new impetus under new leadership, even though we were still hoping for a turnaround right up until the end,” says Salzburg’s managing director Stephan Reiter.

“We would like to thank Pep for his work. He has a lot of commitment and passion invested and also gave us important impulses for further development.” Now it’s a matter of finding a successor for the Bulls. “We are now working very intensively on the search for a coach and will announce it as soon as a decision has been made in this regard. It is clear that we want to start training with our new coach on January 3, 2025,” said Reiter.
