Judge nominated by Biden debuts in musical on Broadway

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, nominated by Democrat Joe Biden to the Supreme Court of the United States in 2022, made her debut on Broadway last Saturday (14) when she unexpectedly appeared in the musical “& Juliet”in New York.

Her special appearance in the show, which made her the first court magistrate to perform such an act, quickly became the subject of controversy and criticism in the USA.

According to information from the American media, Jackson, who is part of the progressive wing of the Supreme Court, took to the stage to play a role created especially for her in the musical. “& Juliet” is described as a “modern and alternative” reinterpretation of the classic novel “Cheese and guava”by William Shakespeare. In this version, Juliet does not have the same ending as her beloved Romeo and “moves on” after his death, who, according to the musical, cheated on her with several women.

“Embark on a fabulous journey as she abandons her tragic ending in search of a new beginning and a second chance at life and love — her way,” says the musical’s description.

The musical defends female independence and includes characters that reflect current ideologies, such as a friend of Juliet who identifies as “non-binary”.

According to Fox Newsthe judge was wearing jeans and a blue corset and participated in two scenes, where she even sang.

In an interview with the broadcaster CBS News, Jackson said the experience was “personally meaningful.” She described her appearance on Broadway as a milestone in her life.

“I think that means anything is possible,” he said.

According to the judge, theater was an “old passion since childhood” and, for a moment, it was considered as an alternative to a career in law.

Jackson’s participation in the musical, however, was met with discomfort by critics. Businessman Elon Musk even joked, suggesting that Jackson should from now on “sing his verdicts”.

Libs Of TikTok, an account on Platform X that criticizes progressive policies, wrote that Jackson should “stop giving verdicts.”

“She should follow her dream (theater) and resign! (to the Supreme Court)”, he pointed out.
