The Spanish film ‘Second Prize’ is left out of the Oscar preselection

Composer Alberto Iglesias passes the first screening for the original soundtrack of ‘The Room Next Door’

The Spanish film ‘Second Prize’, by Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez, has been left out in its race for the Hollywood Academy’s Oscars, as it was excluded from the films shortlisted in the Best International Film category.

Among the fifteen shortlisted films that have made the cut is the French film ‘Emilia Pérez’, starring the Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón, and other films such as the Brazilian film ‘I’m Still Here’; the German ‘The seed of the sacred fig tree’; the Canadian ‘Universal Language’; or the Danish ‘The Girl with the Needle’, among others.

Also continuing in the Oscar race is the Irish ‘Kneecap’; the Icelandic ‘Touch’; the Italian ‘Vermiglio’ or the Palestinian ‘From Ground Zero’. From Latvia, the film ‘Flow, a world to save’ has also moved on to the next phase; the Norwegian ‘The Tutoring’; the Czech ‘Waves’; the English ‘Secrets of a crime’; the Senegalese ‘Dahomey’; and the Thai ‘How to become a millionaire before grandma dies’.

For his part, composer Alberto Iglesias has passed the first screening for the original soundtrack of ‘The Room Next Door’, directed by Pedro Almodóvar, in a category in which he competes with music from films as popular as ‘ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, ‘Gladiator II’ or ‘Inside Out 2’.

Furthermore, two Spanish fiction cuts also appear in the productions preselected by the Hollywood Academy: ‘Paris 70’, directed by Dani Freixas, with Luisa Gavasa and Alain Hernández as protagonists; and ‘The Great Work’, by Àlex Lora, which has a cast led by Daniel Grao and Melina Matthews.
