“Vini is the new Neymar, a wrong model”, says Lothar Matthäus

Legend of Bayern Munich and the German national team, Lothar Matthäus, commented on Vini Jr’s victory as best player of the season in the award, The Best, from FIFA. And the world champion with Germany spared no criticism of the Brazilian.

“For me, Vinicius is the new Neymar”, began Matthäus, in an interview with Sports picture. However, the comparison did not have a complimentary tone.

“His behavior is going in the wrong direction, because Neymar is a wrong model”, explained the German, who coached Athletico-PR in Brazil during a lightning spell in 2006.

Matthäus praised Vini’s football.

“He has great finishing, speed, everything he does is top notch. But his behavior goes in the wrong direction”, reinforced the German, comparing Vini to Neymar again, in a negative way.

Less than two months after experiencing the frustration of losing the Ballon d’Or award from France Football magazine, Vinicius Junior24, was elected this Tuesday (27) the winner of The Best, a trophy for the best player in the world chosen by FIFA (International Football Federation).

Created in 1991, the FIFA award had already disagreed with the oldest and most traditional individual award in football on ten occasions, three involving Brazilians: Romário, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Gaúcho.

In 1994, Romário was voted the best in the world by FIFA thanks to his brilliance in his fourth championship with the Brazilian team, but he was unable to compete for the Ballon d’Or, which at the time only awarded players born in Europe.

The trophy went to Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov, his Barcelona teammate.

Two years later, Ronaldo had great performances for PSV and Barcelona, ​​but lost the magazine’s trophy to German Matthias Sammer, champion of the 1996 Euro Cup.

In 2004, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, already established as a Barcelona star, won the FIFA award, but saw the Ballon d’Or go to Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko, Milan striker. The last Brazilian to win both awards was Kaká, in 2007.
