Long before he found his way onto television, before he raved about jeans boys and about tight pants, long before he appeared in theaters, had himself chained up and whipped, long before Hermes Phettberg found himself, he found his way into speech. Even as a student, he wrote entire notebooks full of poems. Later, as a young adult, he typed verse after verse on the typewriter: “Then, no matter what wind blows! / He will take me wherever he pleases / and wherever I fall / I will stay there.”
