AP: IDF occupies abandoned Assad military base outside ‘buffer zone’

According to the Associated Press, the Israeli military has occupied an abandoned Syrian army base in the village of Ma’ariya (Umm Sharq). The village is located in Daraa province, outside the “buffer zone”.

Local residents say that Israeli soldiers first demanded that they hand over their weapons, which they claim they do not have and did not have, and now they are not allowing farmers to access their plots of land.

The Israel Defense Forces previously said its forces were in the “buffer zone” and several points nearby to ensure the security of Israel’s borders. However, the IDF refuses to comment on specific positions.
