HBL: The first Finnish member of the Swedish Academy leaves his post

Finnish-Swedish author Tua Forsström leaves his place at the Swedish Academy. Told about it Hufvudstadsbladet (HBL) on Friday.

Forsström was elected as a member of the Academy in 2019. He is a permanent member the first Finnish citizenwho became a member of the 18-member Swedish Academy.

The Swedish Academy awards, among other things, the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Forsstrom tells HBL that there is no drama involved in leaving the academy. There are reasons related to health and coping in the background.

“I was energetic and terribly excited for a long time. The work has still felt exciting, but my energy is starting to run out,” 77-year-old Forsström says.

Membership of the Swedish Academy was previously for life. In 2018, the rules of the Academy were changed so that you can resign from membership if you wish.
