YouTube Playables adds multitasking mode to watch videos during the gaming experience

YouTube has announced the addition of a new feature for Playables, which will allow creators to view videos through a small window that is placed over the game interface to view other content during games.

‘Playables’ or Playables is a section dedicated to video games that YouTube began testing in September 2023, which includes a set of more than 75 titles that can be played directly from the Google application.

This feature was made available to all users at the end of last May, after spending a few months as an experimental function in beta version, although limited within its Premium subscription service in some countries.

The company is adding new options to Playables in recent weeks, such as multiplayer mode with the titles Ludo Club y Magic Tiles 3, both in the version of the platform for Desktop and for mobile devices.

Now, it has announced that it is testing other multiplayer titles in this section, with new features, and that “there will be more in the future”, as shared in a platform update.

With this, it has advanced that it has incorporated multitasking in YouTube Playables, so that it is now possible to play and watch videos at the same time. To do this, the user only has to start a video they want to watch, minimize the player and choose one of the titles available in Playable.

Once the chosen video ends, the window can be opened again to choose other content and return to the game. The title will then pause automatically. until the corresponding window is reopened.

Google has noted that this feature is available on desktops, tablets and Android devices to start, and that it will “soon” be available on iOS.
