Bitter bankruptcy of a well-known Austrian shrimp breeder

It’s hard to believe, but shrimp are actually farmed in Austria. “The Salzburg shrimp are the best alternative to shrimp from abroad. Minimal CO² footprint through local breeding – without having to travel far – without burdening nature and people. Collection directly from us on site or from various partner companies in Salzburg. Freshly caught, processed and packaged into the desired portion size. Free of antibiotics and freshly caught,” it says on the company’s homepage. “Depending on the quantity purchased, we can offer you different prices. If you need an individual purchase quantity that is not shown in our standard sizes, please contact us.”

This is how one costs half a kilogram freshly fished whole shrimps and not deveined 45 euros, a kilogram is twice as much.

We’re talking about the Salzburg Shrimp GmbH based in Bergheim. On Friday, restructuring proceedings without self-administration were opened at the Salzburg Regional Court based on a self-application for their assets. That confirms Venka Stojnice von Credit reform the COURIER.

Planned sales not achieved

“It is a shrimp farm that breeds shrimp, fishes them, packages them and then sells them to catering establishments and individual buyers,” it continues. “According to our own application, the reasons for the insolvency are that the construction costs were significantly exceeded due to price increases caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. As a result, purchasing power fell and the expected sales could not be achieved.”

The debts

According to Creditreform, 11 creditors are affected with claims totaling 815,000 euros.

The future

“The debtor is seeking to continue the business and reduce debts through a restructuring plan. The applicant is currently offering its creditors a quota of 20 percent within two years,” he said AQUA. “The funds required to meet the restructuring plan quota should be generated from the results of the going concern business over the next 24 months.”

Attorney Thomas Hufnagl was appointed as insolvency administrator.
