The Raung volcano has awakened on the island of Java, this may lead to problems with access to Bali

In the eastern part of the island of Java, the Raung volcano awakened and emitted a cloud of ash. Restrictions on air traffic with the island of Bali are expected. There may also be problems with the accessibility of Lambok Island.

Indonesian authorities have not yet reported any casualties.

Raung is an active stratovolcano in the east of the island of Java, in the province of East Java, 180 kilometers west of the city of Surabaya. Height 3332 meters above sea level. It is composed of andesitic and basaltic lavas. At the top there is a caldera with a diameter of about 2 km, a depth of up to 600 m. Due to the last eruption in August 2015, Ngurah Rai International Airport on the island of Bali was closed.
